What we do
Banff and Macduff Community Trust is a not for profit company limited by guarantee and is owned its membership – people who live in, or who have a vested interest in, the local community. It was set up to create and encourage a sense of community and pride of place which fosters the wellbeing of the two towns. It aims to address the economic, social and environmental needs of Banff and Macduff. Put simply, we work with, in and for the community.
The Trust was formed in January 2009 on the back of the successful Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership – a formal agreement between Aberdeenshire Council, Scottish Enterprise Grampian and Communities Scotland (now part of the Scottish Government) which recognised that local towns had a critical part to play in the wellbeing of Aberdeenshire. The work of Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership was carried out in each town by a strategy
group comprising various interests in the towns and local elected members.
The Trust aims to build on the good work and previous successes of the Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership to make Banff and Macduff better places to live and work and will continue to participate in community planning at a local level.
BMCT is involved in a wide range of projects locally, but the common thread in all of its activities is its links to the Banff and Buchan Local Community Plan. In order to achieve its vision, projects undertaken by the Trust must satisfy at least one of the five community plan themes:
- Community Well-being
- Jobs and Economy
- Learning
- Sustainable Environment
- Developing our Partnership
Members have a right to attend annual general meetings and extraordinary general meetings, and every third meeting of the Board of Directors is open to members and the general public. The Directors, who are appointed by the membership, generally control and supervise the activities of the company.
Membership is open to anyone over 16 whose main residence or business interest is in Banff, Macduff or the surrounding district. Youth membership is available to those aged under 16, while those who do not live locally but have an interest in the wellbeing of the local community can become associate members.
